For the past three years the Music Department at Sheffield Cathedral has been working with partner primary schools across the city as part of the national Sing Up! initiative.

This initiative, known locally as Sing!, has enabled thirteen Sheffield primary schools with limited or no resources for teaching singing to benefit from the services of a skilled singing teacher. It has also provided opportunities for pupils to sing in concerts in the Cathedral at least once a year and for them to welcome Cathedral choristers on singing visits.

The national funding for this initiative ceases at the end of the current academic year, but thanks to a generous grant from the Church Burgesses Educational Foundation Sheffield Cathedral has been able to extend its local scheme for at least another year. The administrator and lead teacher for the Sheffield Cathedral Sing! Project, Nick Cox, expressed his delight at the news of the grant: "It's wonderful news that we're going to be able to continue with this exciting work.
